2014 123° West Pinot Noir
A Cellar Club Exclusive
The 2014 123º West Pinot Noir is a five-barrel blend of some of our Winegrower and Winemaker’s favorite lots from the vintage. Two barrels of Arcus Estate Vineyard were selected for the blend harvested from a Pommard block on September 17, 2014 at a ripe 26.5 degrees Brix and pH 3.31 and fermented with 51% whole clusters. One single new barrel of Canary Hill Vineyard old-vine Pommard was chosen for this year’s blend picked on September 19th at 25.7 degrees Brix and pH 3.20 and fermented with 44% whole clusters. Carter Vineyard Dijon 115 also contributed one new barrel picked September 19th, 2014 at 24.7 degrees Brix and pH 3.20. Finally, one new Tonnellerie de Mercurey barrel of Tunkalilla Vineyard Dijon 828 harvested on September 27th, 2015 was selected for the 2014 blend.
The 2014 123º West Pinot Noir displays a deep and concentrated nose that dashes back and forth between dark, concentrated fruit that broods and bright forward aromatics that jump out of the glass. It also integrates dark aromas of charred barbeque, accented by the signature Cristom aromas from the stems of cardamom and cinnamon along with hibiscus, dried tea leaves and tobacco on the nose. Tasted, June 2016.
