2017 Old Vine Series: Hyland Vineyard Pinot Noir
Our inaugural Old Vine Series features 3 vineyards whose reputation and fruit quality proceeds them. As a grape vine ages, its fruit becomes more concentrated and complex; vine output slows, but quality increases. Hyland Vineyard is located in the McMinnville AVA and represents a wonderful new relationship for Cristom. With vines planted in 1971, we appreciate the rarity of finding this level of vine age in Oregon. Owner Laurent Montalieu oversees this 180-acre vineyard that sits at the foothills of the Cascade Range, comprised entirely of volcanic soils. With 48-year-old vines, we believe this bottling offers a stunning translation of a lesser-known AVA.
